Survival

September 29th, 2006

Primitive life was ostensibly about survival. What we did to survive—to simply live—at that point in time was an all consuming endeavor occupying most of our waking hours. As mankind developed, we began distinguishing between those things which we do to survive and those things which we do to enjoy our survival.

As we continue to be driven more by desire or ambitions to achieve, we appear to be returning to a life in which the greater concentration of our time is about survival and less about enjoying the fruits of that survival.

That does not necessarily mean work and play. But it does mean we need to evaluate the concentration of our time at producing output which is emotionally, psychologically and intellectually satisfying.
